Weekend in Review

We had a very fun but very busy weekend. Our friends Abby and Ben came from DC for the weekend. I was sooo excited to see them as the last time they were here was Emmie's birthday. Our plan for the weekend was that they would come over Friday night for a bit after they got to Columbia, Saturday we would all go to the game, and Sunday I was hosting a small baby shower brunch for Abby at Liberty (she's 21 weeks pregnant with their first baby - a girl), and then they would head back to DC. They ended up not getting in until after midnight on Friday (it took them 3 extra hours to get from DC to Columbia) so they went straight to their hotel. Saturday morning they came over and we headed to the game.  This was the first game I'd been able to go to this season so I was SUPER excited and very thankful that Paul's parents came to keep the girls so that I could go. We had about 10 people at tailgate so that was really fun and we had some very yummy food! Sadly, Carolina was not able to round up enough offense to beat Auburn (really they couldn't seem to round up any offense at all) but we still had lots of fun spending time with friends!

Sunday we were supposed to have brunch at 10:30 and at about 9:30 Abby called and said her doctor wanted her to go to the hospital because she was having some pain.  I went and met Abby and Ben at the hospital and 2 1/2 hours later they decided it was just some "growing pains" (as I refer to them) and sent us on our merry way.  We were all very glad that Abby and Baby Girl were just fine! Luckily, because it was such a small group of people going to the brunch we were all still able to meet at Monterrys (we decided that would be faster) and have Abby's shower! She got some ADORABLE outfits and other gifts for Baby Girl and I think everyone enjoyed catching up!

I have to brag a little bit because I'm really not super crafty but this is the diaper wreath I made for Abby. Kristy had done one for a shower and so she gave me the idea and thankfully she also came over and helped me make it (she's super crafty!). It was definitely less frustrating then a diaper cake would have been and Emmie was able to help me make this (she distributed diapers). Fyi, all you do is get a wreath frame from a craft store, open up your diaper and put it around the frame like you would put it around the baby and then gather the top together and tie a ribbon. It's great because it can be used as decoration and then the diapers can be taken off and used on the baby!

The girls at the shower.

This evening, our friends Elizabeth and Brian came over for dinner. Elizabeth and I have been friends since first grade and we went all through grade school together and then we were both nursing majors at USC and I always love to hang out with her.  Elizabeth recently got her master's degree so now she has a Monday-Friday job so it's a lot harder to find time to get together.  Elizabeth came to the hospital when Ellie was born but didn't get to met her because she was in the nursery so this was her first time seeing her.  Fortunately Miss Ellie was in a good mood and full of smiles for her company and Emmie was entertaining as always! We had such a nice time visiting with Elizabeth and Brian.  It's sad that we live in the same city and yet hadn't seen each other 2 1/2 months...life just gets so crazy sometimes!
