Abby, one of my good friends from college, is here visiting this week (she lives in DC) so we've been busy catching up with friends and seeing the sites in Columbia. Today we took Emmie to the zoo and we had sooo much fun! We got there about 9:15 in the morning and so it was still cool (and by cool I mean 90 degrees) so most of the animals were moving around. Plus, many of them were eating breakfast so that was fun to watch. Another plus was that there were very few people there so we could get close to the exhibits and there was room to meander the stroller around without knocking over people! Last time we were at the zoo Emmie was pretty oblivious to the animals but this time she REALLY enjoyed watching all the animals. The macaws were one of her favorite animals. They were bright blue and were being REALLY loud and she thought it was great!
The girafffes were right up next to the viewing area and so Emmie enjoyed watching them up close and personal as well.
There is a new kangaroo/wallabie exhibt that Abby and I (and Emmie) thought was really neat. You actually walk into the exhibit so you're right up next to the animals...so cool! Emmie was pretty mesmerized, especially when they hopped around!
I did a lot at the Greenville Zoo when I was growing up so I'm glad that we are close to a good zoo for Emmie!
