The week before Christmas we headed to Summerville for a quick trip to see the James Island lights. Of course we managed to squeeze in some other fun activities as well!
We arrived on Wednesday right before lunch and I dropped the kids (and Franklin) off with Gin-g and Fred and headed to Charleston to visit my friend Susan and her new baby, Barrett. I was SO excited to get to spend time with Susan and get LOTS of baby girl snuggles!
While I was at Susan's house Gin-g and the girls decorated Christmas cookies while JP took his nap.
When I got back to their house we hopped in the car and headed to Chick-fil-A for dinner and then headed to see the lights! Gin-g and Fred had told us for years how good the lights were and they weren't kidding! The lights were amazing! Unfortunately, we were there the only day that week that it rained so we couldn't get out of the car and do all the activities they have (train, carousel, etc). We went through the lights twice and I'm pretty sure there were still things that we overlooked. THey had SO many lights and they were all really neat. I think my favorite was the bridges. The lights toggled back and forth between the new bridge and the old bridge. Hopefully we can go back another year and do those! The kids were pretty impressed (even Ruthie and JP who are rear facing so can't see from the same angle we do!). My kiddos were absolute troopers. We got stuck in rush hour traffic on the way there and then got stuck in standstill traffic on the way back that was so bad we finally turned around, go all the way back to James Island and then go back to Summerville a different way. When all was said and done the kids were in the car for over 3 hours and they didn't complain till the very end. Next time we go to the lights we're aiming for a day that isn't raining and less traffic!

the church was another one of my favorites |
On Thursday we had to head out after lunch to get back in time to go get the kids' silhouettes done in Lexington but before we left we had a fun treat for the kids! We took them to a tea room in Summerville! We had been there before with the girls but this time Papa and JP came with us. The kids LOVED it and the tea room did such a good job making everything special for the kids. They even gave them tiny teacups to drink their water/lemonade from.

JP's tiny teacup was precious! |

The kids had grilled cheese, goldfish, fruit, and a tiny cupcake. And then they brought them a special dessert at the end! |

Emmie's dessert had a candle since she had just celebrated her birthday! |
