A Day in the Life...

Yesterday was such a crazy day that I decided that today we were just going to hang out at the house and not do anything we didn't want to do!  Yesterday we were in the car ALL DAY!  I drove back from Greenville, unloaded the car and fed Emmie lunch, went to the grocery store, came home and Emmie took a nap,  took Franklin to the groomers, came home to feed Emmie, went to pick Franklin up from the groomers, came home for a few minutes, went out to dinner with some girls from church at Takosushi (by that point I was soooo glad to go hang out with friends and to stop moving for a few minutes).  Sadly, the restaurant does not have highchairs which means that I have to hold Emmie the whole time and it's quite difficult to eat sushi while trying to keep everything out of the grasp of a 7mo. old (I discussed the lack of highchairs with the waiter...hopefully they'll have them soon!).  The lack of highchair also meant that I had to feed Emmie while she was in her carrier so that was just added to the time that she was strapped in the carrier.  Anywho...then we got back in the car to go home and when I started the car up the thermometer read at 110 degrees and it only dropped down to about 95...yuck...no wonder Emmie was so grouchy...just thinking about it made me grouchy!  By the time we got home and played for a few minutes it was bathtime and then bedtime...a LONG, LONG, busy day!
So that brings me to today.  Which was a complete 180 from yesterday.
Emmie slept until about 8 and all morning we just sat around and played (she had a great time pulling everything out of my pump bag) and then she went down for a nap about 10:40 and went down sooo easy which was a very nice change from the recent shrieking at naptime.  I jumped in the shower when I put her down and then debated whether I had time to get a nap...luckily I opted for the nap because she slept until 12:10...yay!  After lunch we played for awhile and Emmie had the best time entertaining herself.  She has started saying "ba-ba" and she says it ALL.THE.TIME.  It is sooo funny !  (Whenever she does it I quickly reply with "ma-ma"...haha!)  We were playing upstairs and she crawled under the pool table and sat up and so I put a blanket on top of the table to make a "fort" for her.  She had the BEST time playing peek-a-boo with me from her fort!

I forsee many hours of fort playing in her future!  She also enjoyed peeking out from behind the legs of the pool table.

(In case you're wondering why she's just in a diaper it's because she was still in her pajamas and then had a poopy diaper that went up her back and I just hadn't gotten around to putting clothes back on her yet!)

She went down for her afternoon nap about 3:15 and around 4 I though hmmm...perhaps I should start thinking about dinner...oops!  Luckily I had some chicken in the fridge and after Emmie woke up at 4:15 and ate we ran to the grocery store and by 6 I had a yummy chicken parmesan and salad on the table (I was a little impressed...esp. since the first time I made chicken parm it took me 2hrs. to make the 30min meal :)...).  So Emmie and I ate dinner and then I cleaned up while she emptied out the tupperware cabinet...but she had a great time doing it and I got all the dishes done so all was good!  Then we took Franklin on a walk and stopped at Addison's house to play for a few minutes.  Plus I needed to see all the cute clothes Rebekah had bought for Addison at Daff-a-deals, the super fabulous consignment shop/boutique near our house.  Apparently they have 50% off their summer clothes right now...I forsee a shopping trip in my future!  We came home, Emmie, got a bath, and went to bed without a peep and in time for me to watch Andrew get voted off of Big Brother and see Rachel win HOH...AGAIN!

On the move...

Emmie started army crawling a few weeks ago and I finally got around to catching it on video so everyone could see!  Most of my motivation for this came from the fact that I have quite a few friends who just posted crawling videos of their babies...we had to be part of the "crawling baby on video" club!  I've quite enjoyed watching Liv, Mac, and Hoby crawl and I think it's interesting how each one has their own unique crawl!

One of my bows!
I really took this so that you could see the bow (it's one that I made) but you can't really see it...oh well.
We had to put Nate on the Sunday Style Section this week.  If I had a little boy I would so put him in plaid shorts all the time!  Isn't he adorable?
I love this dress and it's sooo soft!
She wore this to church today...it was the first time she'd worn it and I think it is such a classic little girl dress.
Franklin's checking out Emmie's bonnet.
It's a Franklin!  He's such a cute puppy...he doesn't even have to put on clothes to be part of the Sunday Style Section.  Lately he's been wanting to get in the picutre whenever I sit Emmie down to take her Sunday Style Section picture so I figured he must want to be part of the blog!

Fun with friends!

Julie and Nate Paulson came to visit us this week.  Julie was my rommate senior year and Nate is her ADORABLE 16mo old.  I hadn't seen them in a year and I couldn't believe how much Nate had grown!  We had so much fun with Julie and Nate and I definitely got some great pictures!

So Nate definitely posed for this picture...he clearly knows how stinkin' adorable he is!

Just in the nick of time...

For a few weeks now I've been meaning to move the mattress in Emmie's crib down a notch.  My in-laws were here this weekend and so on Friday Paul's dad moved the mattress down for us.  This morning I went in to get Emmie out of her crib and she was sitting up in her crib waiting for me!  This past week she has gotten herself to a sitting position a few times if she had been laying on her side but today she's gotten herself up a few times!  REALLY glad the mattress got lowered!

I love this picture of her!  I think she looks like such a big girl.
LOVE this picture.  I love the dress and I'm so sad that she's about to outgrow it width-wise.  I made the bow and I think it looks GREAT with this dress!

Aren't these bloomers adorable?  My friend Christa monogrammed them.

These are the bows I made...They're not perfect but I was pretty impressed with myself!  The 3 big bows will go on headbands and the little bow will clip in her hair.

7 months!

WOW!  I can't believe that it has been 7 months since Emmie was born!  It really seems like just yesterday we welcomed her into the world.  This whole 7 month thing just kind of snuck up on me.  Everyone views 6 months as such a big "milestone" as far as all things baby and so as a parent I think we look forward to that 6 month mark and so it seemed like it took forever for it to get here and then BOOM, Emmie's 7 months...completely out of the blue!

I am 7 months old!
  •  I wear size 3 diapers.
  • I wear 9mo. sleepers, 6-9mo clothes, and 12mo bathing suits.
  • I sleep from about 8pm until about 7:30am every night.
  • I take 2 naps during the day.  One at 10 and one at 2.
  • I have cut my 2 bottom teeth!
  • I eat lots of different foods.
  • This month I started with finger foods.  I will eat peach slices and sweet potato cubes with my fingers and I have sooo much fun eating them!

  • I can stand up by myself while holding on to something.
  • I can army crawl like a champ and I'm trying to figure out how to really crawl!
  • Every once in a while I can get myself into a sitting position if I start from lying on my side.
  • I take a bath in the big girl bathtub now!
  • I'm really good at getting from a sitting position to lying on my stomach.
  • I am madly in love with Franklin and I get sooo excited when he gets close enough for me to touch him.  I also LOVE when he kisses me...either on the hand or the mouth...sometimes I even lick him back!
  • Franklin will sometimes bring me his toys so that we can play tug of war and that gets me so excited that I flap my arms around and sometimes I bop him in the head by accident but he's really good natured about it.
  • This month I had to say goodbye to one of my friends...we're so sad that Julia and her parents moved to Birmingham (along with Blizzard, the dog, who would always lick my hand...which of course I loved!)

  • I went to visit Gran and Grandaddy (and my GIANT) this month and got to go to their pool every night and I had sooo much fun.  I would watch mommy blow bubbles in the water and sometimes I would get brave enough to put my mouth in the water too.

  • I'm still obsessed with my Giant (aka Uncle Ben).

  • I love to be outside, especially if there's water involved!

  • This month I celebrated USC winning the National Championship in baseball!

Finger Foods

Emmie has started practicing with finger foods.  At first I was giving her small sweet potato chunks and she does pretty well with those but generally by the time she gets them to her mouth most of the sweet potato is gone.  While I was at my mom's house I gave her some peach chunks but they were so slippery that she wasn't able to hold on to them long enough to get them to her mouth so we gave her peach slices.  She LOVED the slices...they were the perfect size for her to pick up and eat!  We also gave her some big sweet potato chunks which she loves...I was able to get the sweet potatoes on video!
Enjoy!

LOVE the hair!  It definitely dried this way after she got out of the pool...do you think that could have something to do with the sweet potatoes she rubbed in her hair during dinner??

Every girl should be so lucky as to have a flower in her hair!
You saw this dress a few weeks ago...how cute is it monogrammed! (thanks Christa!)

Emmie wore her watermelon dress to church this week...one of my favs!
For some reason this picture would not upload to the blog in the right orientation...grrr...I had lots of technical difficulties this week...that shirt is so true...sigh...I know the feeling

Working Girl

Emmie's learning some accounting...or how to play minesweeper...not sure which one ;)
She said someone has to keep her Grandaddy in line!

FOOD...YUMM!

So Emmie is usually a relatively neat eater.  She loves her food and doesn't let much of it get out of her mouth.  However, yesterday was another story all together!  We've started giving Emmie sweet potato cubes at dinner so she can practice finger foods and she quite enjoys them (she doesn't get many in her mouth but she has fun).  Anyway...yesterday she was apparently quite distracted by her sweet potatos to the point that she was letting lots of food fall out of her mouth and then smearing it ALL OVER herself!  She was happy about her new look though so all was good!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!  We had a very pleasant day today and it was so nice to all hang out together!  We went to church, came home and took a GREAT nap (thanks Emmie!), did some work around the house, Paul and Emmie played in the baby pool, we grilled hamburgers for dinner and ate on the patio (it was SO nice outside today), and we ended the day with a nice walk around the neighborhood!

(I had to include this picture again in honor of our National Championship baseball team!)

Plants

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a lot of issues keeping plants alive.  One great example of this is when we moved in the people who lived her before us had planted a beautiful hydrangea...it is MASSIVE and absolutely beautiful!  I decided that I would plant another one right beside the one that was already there...after all, that one was doing so well that I knew the new one would be in the right soil and get the right amount of sun.  Well, three hydrangeas and two years later I FINALLY was successful at keeping one alive.  I was soooo excited this year when my little hydrangea came back (no blooms yet this year on that one but lots of green leaves)!  The people before us had planted a lily in the bed right outside the kitchen window and it has very pretty blooms on it every year.  I've tried to plant many different things in that bed but have been VERY  VERY unsucessful.  Well, last year I said "hey, the only thing that has lived so far is a lily so I'm going to plant another one".  I went and bought one at the store and planted it and a few weeks later the leaves feel off and all I was left with was a brown stick in the ground.  I just had this feeling that maybe it was still alive (it looked like a healthy stick) so I left it alone.  Sure enough this summer it got lots of green on it and the other day I went outside and found this...I was sooo excited...I think this is one of the pretties lillies I've ever seen! (but perhaps I'm just partial because I slaved so much over my stick)

On a side note my garden that I planted this year is doing really well...yay!  Although I think it's starting to fry from the crazy hot weather we've been having...I went out there the other day and the ground was really moist but the plants looked dry...or like they'd been fried....hmm...we'll see what happens with that.  Now if I can only keep the squirrels away from the tomatoes...they like to get them when they're about 2 or 3 days away from being ripe...grrrrrrrrrr.  Sounds like a job for Franklin.
